| HISTORY OF IPODERAC |
The history of Ipoderac goes back to the 1960´s, the founders
wanted to start from scratch, building a facility that could
completely serve the needs of abandoned and neglected children
and youths.
On August 15, 1968, the first brick was laid, providing a boost
of confidence to the project. Exactly one year later, August 15,
1969, the first house of Ipoderac was inaugurated, helping to
consolidate the growing confidence in the project.
Ipoderac specific objectives are to enable the child to have
his own personal identity and love for himself. To create habits
of cleanliness, order, discipline, and work, and provide them
a home environment which they have lacked, so as to provide
them with moral and spiritual guidance, education and reeducation,
and an upbringing more adjusted to reality. In short, to try
to readapt the child and youth in his internal life and in his
ability to relate to society.
Work has been an important dimension in the history of
Ipoderac. During the first 15 or 20 years, the children
obtained their clothes, shoes, and other necessary articles
through a system of work and pay; Ipoderac gave them
something "extra" with the intention of helping them
to value their effort. The search continues for a
system that permits the children and youths to develop
a sense of responsibility and at the same time trains
them to perform productive work.
